Itinerary
Trip 2001
August 27 Leave Zimbabwe at Mutare. Enter Mozambique, camp on shores of Chicamba Dam.
August 28 Drive to provincial capital of Chimoio, then to Inchope where we take the rough Biera road to the coastal town of Vilanculos. Camp overlooking the Indian Ocean.
August 29 Board Dhows and begin sailing to the Bazaruto Archepeligo.
August 30 Sail to Benguera Island and then Bazaruto Island. Snorkel on offshore reefs.
August 31 Bazaruto Island: Explore huge sand dunes and freshwater lakes which attract prolific birdlife.
September 1 Sail back to Vilanculos.
September 2 Drive to Maxixe. Buy provisions. Short boat trip to colonial town of Inhambane. Camp at Barra Point on a white sandy beach.
September 3 Head for Xai Xai (pronounced shy-shy), stopping en route at the Quissico lakes. Swim in large natural tidal pools.
September 4 Leave Mozambique. Enter South Africa.
