Previous Day September 20, 2000 Next Day
Our backsides bike-sore (yesterday's bikes were vintage 1920), we decided to drive our car down a famous stretch called the "Romantic" road. It should be called "Medieval Town" road, but the Germans thought "Romantic" sounded like better tourist marketing. Every ten to twenty miles, like tollbooths in Delaware, another small town popped up that never made it out of the Middle Ages. We thought Rothenburg best, so we stopped there for a night. The town is crisscrossed by narrow cobblestone streets and completely surrounded by a large stone wall. It's creepy and fun to walk along the wall at night, when the town is silent and dark.
On the way to the Romantic road, we stopped for lunch in Heidelberg
