Previous Day JULY 12, 2001 Next Day
We joined the Naadam festivities for another day, watching sports, looking at people, walking around and munching on cheap-eats like the ever-present mutton over rice. We saw kids, ages 6-12, finish a 28 km race across the steppe. Over 700 horses and kids raced, whooped, and hollered like a miniature Mongolian horde.
The little racers, dressed in colorful garb, barely seem to hold on at times.
We saw an interesting Mongolian cultural show, complete with throat singing (a guttural sound) accompanied by local Mongolian instruments and dancers.
Enjoying Mongolian hospitality. That means men have to finish off several bottles of vodka - women can stop after three shots.
