Another day of dust, bumps, and searing heat. Our guide, Kathy,
reminds
us that this is an expedition and not a vacation.
Whenever we pass through a village, the kids run
alongside our truck
shouting "cadeaux!" "cadeaux!" This is French for gift. They must be
used to visitors
handing out goodies. |
To be fair, not everyone is looking for a handout. This woman
gave us a bowl
of peanuts and refused to take any money for it. |
The women are always dressed to the nines
People mob the truck at every stop. Sometimes we feel as though
we're a traveling
rock-n-roll band. |
For lunch we stop along the road and set up a temporary camp.
It doesn't take long
until visitors show up and surround our picnic. |
