Previous Day October 31, 2001 Next Day
Another day of dust, bumps, and searing heat. Our guide, Kathy, reminds us that this is an expedition and not a vacation.
Whenever we pass through a village, the kids run alongside our truck shouting "cadeaux!" "cadeaux!" This is French for gift. They must be used to visitors handing out goodies.
To be fair, not everyone is looking for a handout. This woman gave us a bowl of peanuts and refused to take any money for it.
The women are always dressed to the nines
People mob the truck at every stop. Sometimes we feel as though we're a traveling rock-n-roll band.
For lunch we stop along the road and set up a temporary camp. It doesn't take long until visitors show up and surround our picnic.
