What's there to see in central Turkmenistan? Sand. We drove 9 hours across central Turkmenistan, the Karakum Desert, and saw sand, a few camels, and a handful of police checkpoints. The Turkmen government subsidizes fuel, it's practically free, so a 9 hour cab ride costs $20. By early evening we arrived in Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan.
If you're unhappy with your job just think,
you could be manning one of these desert checkpoints. These policemen live in
a little shack next to the road and spend their day hassling the few vehicles
that pass thru. | |||
Need to hitch a ride? The options are limited.
