Feeling waterlogged from Inle Lake, we dry out by trekking thru hills inland. That plan brought us by dusty road to Kalaw. It perches on the western edge of the Shan Plateau, an ideal place for a trek over the highlands. | |||
Pickups
serve as preferred transport because the Burmese love togetherness or being cramped
head to elbow on a bumpy road. Someone took my seat while I snapped this picture
so I rode on top with other luggage pieces. People hung off the back and sides
and clung to the roof; we carried over 20 people, a few chickens, and one goat.
