Santarem and this section of the Amazon offer natural river beaches. The seasonal flood and ebb of the Amazon uncovers pristine white sand beaches washed clean by the receding waters.
Alter de Chao, a small village and once a sacred site of the Tapajos Indians, boasts the region's best white sand beach, a bleached peninsula that juts into the Rio Tapajos near the spot where it empties into the Amazon.
Jungle, fine sand beaches, clean river water, and as far as we know, no alligators....
My ridiculous tan lines kept the mosquitos laughing instead of biting.
