No
rest for the weary. After our jungle tour dropped us back in Manaus, we heard
about a famous Brazilian festival being held in a town one day's journey downriver.
We took our things down to the docks and waited around like unemployed fishermen
until we found a hydrofoil that was heading in our direction. With its giant engines
swooshing a huge roostertail wake, we arrived ten hours later to Parantins, the
festival town, at 1 AM. The ship docked and we spent the night aboard; it seems
to be an unwritten rule on Amazonian river boats that passengers can sleep for
free aboard the ship they arrived on. |
