Next Day
This morning we pulled away from the sedentary life at Nkata Bay. We rode a bus north, then turned to the interior of Malawi, hoping to reach a town called Livingstonia. Why go there? Because Malawi offers little else to do. However, plans fail. The bus dropped us at Rumphi, yet we couldn't find anyone to take us further, so we backtracked along the shores of Lake Malawi to the beaches at Chitembi. Spending another day at the beach isn't so bad...
People wash laundry and dishes at the lake shore.
Fish, tomatoes, onions, and rice has been our staple diet; there aren't many formal restaurants in Malawi. We find most of our food in truck-stop shacks by the main road.
