Next Day
Gombe is Tanzania's smallest park and also its most expensive. $100 per day for foreign tourists. Ouch! That doesn't include $20 per person lodging and the $10 per person guide fee. With these kind of prices, we leave Gombe after one day, but we saw many chimpanzees.
Gombe has a wonderful beach where visitors can swim or go fishing. The beach also serves as a taxi stop. This morning we sat on the beach with our bags and waved down a passing lake taxi (no roads come into the park).
Back in Kigoma at the city internet cafe - "Baby come & call" - our first internet check in a month.
In the afternoon we fought the crowds and secured a place on the only transport out of Kigoma - the thrice weekly train.
