Has it been a week without seeing a temple? Pilgrim hordes flock to the Perfume Pagoda for the year's first lunar festival. The Perfume Pagoda consists of a shrine complex built along cliffs of the Mountain of Fragrant Traces. The best known temple is the Pagoda Leading to Heaven. It feels like it's going to Heaven as the stairs climb and climb to a cave on the mountain top. |
We
follow Buddhist pilgrims, not our noses, to the Perfume Pagoda. |
Pilgrims have rubbed smooth the cave walls
with money that they deposit in cracks and crevices. By making offerings their
souls become purified, blessings received and sufferings cured. |
